The Graduate Program in Health Sciences (GPHS) of the René Rachou Research Center (CPqRR) holds ((international excellence standards according to evaluations by CAPES (level 6). Currently, the Program is under the Medicine II evaluation committee and offers Master’s and Doctoral degrees in three concentration areas:

• Cellular and molecular biology, genetics and bioinformatics (CMB-GB)
• Infectious and parasitic diseases & chronicle non-transmissible diseases (IPD-CNTD)
• Pathogen transmitters (PT)

The Master’s degree targets the strengthening of technical and academic knowledge in health sciences, the formation of teachers for higher education and ((lato sensu graduate levels and the development of skills for performing research within the program’s concentration areas by integrating knowledge.

The Doctoral degree targets the development of skills for conducting original and independent research and the formation of professionals to act on research and/or teaching.

The Faculty is highly qualified. Currently, the Program has 27 Permanent Professors, most of which are recipients of productivity scholarships from CNPq, and also Associate Professors. All faculty members are coordinators of research projects financed by national and/or international agencies and participate in broad collaborative networks in Brazil and overseas.
Moreover((, besides ((basic research, ((several(( projects developed by the faculty ((involve technologial development and ((innovations in health, ((which are of relevance for Fiocruz((‘s ((current insertion in ((public policies for science and health(( technology.

It is worth noting that the number of young researchers newly incorporated, visiting researchers and postDoctoral fellows with over 4 years since the obtention of their PhDs has risen in the last years. These new collaborators are involved in co-supervisions and teaching of disciplines as a way of preparing for their future incorporation into the faculty.
